Calgary experts, volunteers and survivors in the fight against prostate cancer are questioning the validity of a controversial new recommendation put out this week by a health panel urging doctors to stop screening men using the PSA blood test. “I’m saddened to see a report like this. PSA is not a perfect tool, but it’s the best thing we’ve got. It does allow and enable us to diagnose prostate cancer early and diagnose it in more men than we used to,” said Dr. Bryan Donnelly, a longtime urologist and co-founder of the Prostate Cancer Centre in Calgary.
