With one in seven men developing prostate cancer in their lifetime, it is more important than ever for men to take charge of their own prostate health. This includes regular PSA testing once you reach 40 years of age. That, and seeing your family doc annually. Should the dreaded news “you have prostate cancer’ arrive, thank goodness there is a place men-and their families-can go for answers and support. The Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre- located atop the parkade at the Rockyview General Hospital, is that place. This world-class facility relies entirely on donor dollars to stay in operation. Thankfully, events such as the recent Priddis Greens Charity Classic raise much-needed funds for the centre. And the 2015 tournament, held Aug 12 and 13 with a gala registration evening Aug 11, raised $395,000 for our beloved centre. Such incredible success would not be possible were it not for the 40 golf teams, scores of volunteers and invaluable personal and corporate sponsorship. So take a bow sentiments go out to: tournament chair Bas Wheeler; auction chair Winnie Bezemer; the staff at the Prostate Cancer Centre; and Platinum sponsors Mike Wilson, Breckenridge Group, Global Calgary, Hawthorn Interiors/Lefebre Family, Morrison Homes, Remington Development Corporation and Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club. It is thanks to all of you-as well as many other individuals and corporations, that the Prostate Cancer Centre will continue for a long time to serve the needs of men and their families.
