February 2015, Lethbridge Exhibition Park was packed with ranchers and farmers looking to discover the newest innovations in agriculture during Ag Expo, western Canada’s premier Ag Show.  For many men, their visit offered a little more than expected…a visit to the Man Van, all thanks to AltaLink and FortisAlberta.

The two organizations partnered in bringing the Man Van to Ag Expo, a mobile clinic dedicated to increasing awareness and offering simple, on-the-spot baseline prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood tests to Alberta men.

“We are very pleased to partner with AltaLink and provide the Man Van clinics, which raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and the need for men to take action on their health,” says Merlin MacNaughton, Stakeholder Relations Manager at FortisAlberta.

In total 229 men “manned up” to receive the blood test.

“It’s a wonderful service,” said one participant. “It’s great to see Fortis and AltaLink supporting this program.”

The Man Van is operated by the Prostate Cancer Centre, a revolutionary, made-in-Alberta success story, unique in North America and funded entirely through the generosity of donors and sponsors.

The Centre thanks FortisAlberta and AltaLink for empowering their communities with both electricity and men’s health.
