In recognition of men’s health month in June, Calgary’s Prostate Cancer Centre is challenging Calgary men to join the first ever #YYCMANATHON. This 30 day pledge encourages men to make a small healthy change to their lifestyle, nutrition, physical activity or even mental health. The successful launch of this event will not only help bring awareness to the health risks facing men but in turn raise money for men’s health programs at the Centre.

Dave Bateman, RN and Clinical Director of the Prostate Cancer Centre says, “Our Know Your Numbers initiative focuses on Body Mass Index, blood glucose, and blood pressure. These biometrics are linked with the most pervasive chronic health problems plaguing men.”

Dr. Shelley Spaner, Board Member and founder of the Prostate Cancer Centre’s Women for Men’s Health initiative says, “The greatest threats to men’s health in Canada are heart disease, cancer, unintentional injuries, chronic lower respiratory disease and stroke. Making a few lifestyle changes can significantly lower your risk of these common killers.”

By making small, healthy habits a part of each day, you can lower your risks. By incorporating just one change for 30 days, you can begin a healthy habit.

The Prostate Cancer Centre is home to the MAN VAN, Canada’s only mobile men’s health clinic offering PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing, as well as blood pressure, blood glucose and body mass index measurements.

The Prostate Cancer Centre is a non-profit organization established in 1999 and focused on the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer and prostate related disease. We support excellence in prostate cancer awareness, education, diagnosis, treatment, advocacy and research with the ultimate goal of eliminating advanced prostate cancer.
