FACTS:

Prostate cancer is the leading cancer in Albertan men. One man in seven will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime. 2500 men will be diagnosed annually with prostate cancer and 8 men will die from it every week.

Balancing work, family and a social life keeps men busy. Prostate health is not always top-of-mind. It can be very difficult for men to fit regular doctor visits into their schedules. That is why the Prostate Cancer Centre is pleased to offer the services of the MAN VAN™ to the community. Through our “GET CHECKED” program, our professional staff travel with the MAN VAN™ to convenient locations to offer free PSA testing to men over 40. No appointment is necessary. In addition, employers can book the van to visit their offices and test employees on site. Visit our website at getchecked.ca for clinic dates or to book your own clinic.

The PSA test is a simple blood test that helps in the early detection of prostate cancer. PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen is a substance produced by the prostate and released in small amounts to the bloodstream. The amount of PSA in the bloodstream can often predict a man’s risk of prostate cancer. We provide free and confidential baseline PSA tests in the comfort of a 25 motor home. The MAN VAN is equipped with comfy leather seats and a flat-screen TV to create an environment where men can relax while taking charge of their health.

In 2011 the van made 85 public appearances and tested 2500 men. Since the van hit the streets in June of 2009, 6000 men have received baseline PSA scores.

There are now two ways you can partner with THE MAN VAN :

• Host a public MAN VAN clinic at your location (clinic's are open to the public)
• Host a private MAN VAN clinic at your location for your employees
